I wouldn't really call it a diet as this way of eating is done by the many cultures in the Mediterranean region. Think of it as a healthy way of not only looking at food, but eating it as well. This book teaches readers that a Mediterranean diet doesn't focus on calories, but on specific types of foods and being physically active, to help in losing weight, and getting and staying healthy overall. It offers the very important reminder that a healthcare practitioner should be consulted prior to beginning a new diet, and encourages readers to get to the heart of why they eat. It also stresses the importance of having people around you who will cheer you on. It has great suggestions for healthy foods  that can be substituted for those we might crave that aren't so healthy, and  encourages those who begin this diet to ease into changing how they eat, and to pay attention to nutrition labels. You also get a 28-day meal plan. And, you don’t have to order any “special foods or vitamins.” Everything you need to prepare your meals, you can buy at your local grocery store, and, you probably already have most of it in your cupboards and fridge right now.
